Rafi was natural and Kishore was not! How come? I feel the opposite is true. Because Kishore did not learn signing and so obviously he was natural. Rafi learnt it for long - so he was not natural, he was made.
Listen to this same song by Kishore when he paid tribute to Rafi, then you will have better idea about Kishore's capabilities also...

Thanks to your comments. I am sorry to say that your knowledge in singing is very poor. Singing is not a question of naturality - its naturality, plus riyaaz (with classical) that makes a person a singer.

I have listened to both of them. The scale of this song is not proper to Kishore's normal scale and hence he had to resort to modulate his voice and had no other option but applying low notes; here watch out for the fragileness of his voice and compare it Rafisaab's straight and clear notes along with the harkats.

You will understand the difference. Apart from Rafissab, the other person who could have sung the song very well is none other than Manna Dey. Because the texture of his voice and his proficiency in classical singing would be of help.

Fragileness is due to sound quality boss. One is in film and the other in khandwa function barely audible quality.
I am sorry to say that your logic is very poor. You say 'Singing is not a question of naturality and at the same time you say its naturality + riyaz makes a person singer. So naturality is also involved right? Your one statement is counter-affecting another.
And what is natural? Training or something by birth??? If you say training is natural, then I have nothing to say!!!

Kishore did not try to become an actor and comedian boss, he himself said in interviews that he desperately wanted to become singer and he came to bollywood to sing and meet his idol Seigal. He hated to act but he was made to act in movies since he was brother of Ashok Kumar. Kishore Kumar definitely did not like acting...

I also feel that Kishore, although knowing nothing of classical music, sang that song incredibly well giving his full emotions. Its amazing how a person without knowing anything about music and do such things!! Really it proves that if you have the heart to anything, anything is possible in life.

The background of this song is classical. Roshanji had prepared a masterpiece composition which is timeless with his inherent talent. The lyricist by Sahir Ji conveys a thoughtful message. The hard work and talent of Mohd. Rafi in singing this song is well reflected. I do think that this song could have been well sung by Munna Day and not by any other bollywood singer of that time. However, this masterpiece is worth enjoying and not for debate.

'Man Re' is one of the few songs using Shudh Hindi words . The seemingly natural manner in which Rafi Saab has sung out these lyrics is brilliant . He has done an excellent job in putting emotions into the song!

It makes no sense to say Kishore was not trained. He trained with the best composers, singers and directors from the 50's to the 70's. What is that some of you think training involves? he has to read a book and be given an exam? Rafi and Kishore were both talented and trained. Rafi was definitely more versatile but they were both great in their own ways and they have been immortalized through their art.

Rafi sahab's voice was a natural gift from god, kishore kumars voice was also natural but it was very thick which suited only few actors like amitabh, rajesh khanna and and to some extent dev anand who's style and personality was best shown by rafi sahab's voice. Kishore da's rendition of this song in the concert was not upto the mark, all his low notes were scattered, the main reason was that he has very few low note songs in his entire career.

Guys Guys..I think we are wasting to much time in the useless argument as to who is better and public polling and imagination...public imagination if at all is anything, is nothing more than popular perception.
