He might have his have his bassline doubled by keys but the song would not sound the same without his bass. I'm not sure what the point of your comment is, are you implying that the guy can't play? I hope not because that would not be a very accurate statement. The guy is a world class player; one of the best.

The bass line is midi. Mark King is playing bass guitar over the top of a keybord bass line. That is all I said. Its called the truth.

Yes. If you listen you can tell its a keyboard sound and he is slapping over the top. Jesus! It's not hard to do!

I know a keyboard sequencer when I hear one and I've roadied for enough band to know half of this song is being played by a rack mounted box with knobs on the front of it called Roland!

Anyone got the Mark King version of Sgt Peppers lonely hearts - Bass instrumental? It was done for this Princes Trust concert.

Punorss, would this be the same Roland rack midi squencer he used when in the same show he did a duo head on with Nigel Kennedy? They (Mike Lindup) does use a click and bass sequence track, but believe me Mark does play it as well.

punorss is right. you can hear the slap only sometimes, but mark king still being one of the best bass player. it's quite hard to sing and do slap at the same time

I disagree... The bass is playing throughout the whole song. The Keyboard part is in a higher octave, only on "&a" not on the down beat. Mark's bass has such a distinct sound, and I hear it throughout the entire song. Note wise, it's a simple bass line, but the rate of the right hand slapping and the slow singing juxtaposed makes this much harder than it seems.

At 4min 32 sec you can see Mark stop slapping the bass but you still hearing the bass slap sound... hummmmm Love Mark but a little help doesn't mean he isn't the best!

Yeah man, but he's still playing bass. The midi is no huge secret. It's a big part of MK's sound on a lot of songs. Hot Water is probably the best example. But to imagine that he can't play the line all the way through if he wanted to is pretty ridiculous. I know that's not what you're saying, but of course some idiot will think that. Another good reference, same beat, maybe(?) without a click/sequencer augment; check out Eyes Waterfalling here on youtube.
