Kate Bush's opinion of this song has actually soured over the years. Maybe because of the ultra patriotism that's spawned from it.
The song is actually about a spitfire pilot thinking about his country and all the things he loves about it, while he hurtles to the ground in flames. Of course, we still had something to be proud of in the 40's.
