@ObsidianStray Dude is not making an argument that needs to be countered. It says nothing about whether something is right to say "that's not nice." If your opinion is so fragile that someone saying it's stupid is all it takes for you to change your mind, your opinion is probably wrong. If that's the case, people need to get over themselves and stop thinking "That's meeean!" is anything but a childish, whiny complaint. It's valid to make fun of people when they're saying something laughable.

@IBImogen Those herbs you speak of still don't work *just* because the hippie believes they work. They work because they have some component that has that effect.
And that was proven by science and not by sitting around thinking happy thoughts and chanting. aka the whole message of the song. Or did you miss the alternative medicine that has been proven to work is called medicine part?

Have to agree, the herbs that work are called medicine.. I wonder whatever possessed the person making the medicine to check if the herbs worked. Lol. Must have been a scientist, or someone very brave. I think the hippies aren't to blame for all the misinformation, and religion and science are completely different. One is adaptable to new ideas, the other is dogma set in stone (or so it seems). Hippies are more likely to be adaptable. I don't really care either way.

When I need medicine I consult a doctor and trust medicine knows best. Sure naturalistic cures that can be proven to work, become what we call 'medicine'. Chances are some of these were first found in tribes with Witch Doctors, or in hippy camps with people who study herbs and their effects. Science is still science if you do it with flowers in your hair! I don't think I miss the point. The point seems to be hanging shit on everything as intelligently as possible. Isn't that Tim all over.
