Even though it was sold as a legit injury that put rick out of commission for 8 months, it was all a work. what really happenned after wrestlemania in 1988 was Rick's wife became very ill, and vince granted him time off to be with her while she battled the illness and eventually recovered. after she recovered, rick returned to the ring and later reformed strike force. his sister dying in 1991 was the reason for his absence for some time in that year too.

I remember being very surprised at this "turn" but always liked Rick Martel regardless. This was back in the day when you were "surprised" at a storyline development and you didnt have internet spoilers which in my view ruin the fun. People today arent as "shocked" when a face turns heel because you now know months in advance. Again a reason why the 80's were in my view the zenith for professional wrestling and thank God I was a fan then.

Try to look for Wrestlemania V. It was in 1989 at the Taj Mahal at Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino. The match was a tag team match between The Brainbusters (Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson) vs Strike Force. In that match, Martel accidentally got nailed by Tito, and when Tito was trying to make the tag, Martel walked out on him.

totally agree with this whole internet thing, but there are some people who seem to turn twice a year, so even without spoilers, you could see turns. For example, Jericho turns once a year, same for Angle and Big Show. It gets ridiculous, at times.

True but I think Strikeforce was a great team in an era of superstardom tag teams. Hart Foundation, British Bulldogs, the Brainbusters, Demolition, Rockers...no matter how good of a team you are it was easy to get buried in that kind of line up.
