Soundsgrt88: Perfectly put. Mark in his spandex and bare chest and long hair is the ultimate of manhood; my God, that man had me creaming in my pants and sauteeing my circuits. Today's "singers" don't even know what it's like to present themselves in front of an audience and the audience doesn't know what it's like to have sexy men on stage. What a debacle. Personally I've always loved long hair on guys..esp. if it's on the right body. Mark Farner will always be in my Rock & Sex Hall of Fame!

Mark is the epitomy of manhood for more reasons than his looks and body. Didn't know much about him till i viewed the Histoy videos about them. Besides being a true performer, he also had stamina and integrity to stand up to the IRS for so many years. B******S! Now they see no problem with giving OUR money away.
They also contributed money from several concerts to Phoenix House to help fight drug addiction. That wasn't a "popular" thing to do back than. Real Heroes.

We listened to the J. bros. on a half-time show the other day. They couldn't even stay on key, and nothing was great about them.

In Mark Farner's book "From Grand Funk to Grace" he was mostly influenced by black musicians, probably because of his proximity to Detroit and Motown. You can hear that influence in Grand Funk's music. Mark said he didn't listen to the Beatles, because he thought they had no soul in their music. Combine the soul, with Mark's huge talent on guitar, and his ability to write music, add in Brewer, Schacher, and Frost. That is where you get the unique sound. They threw away the mold after making GFR.

A very underrated band. In their prime, which I believe contains the first three albums, they were on par with anyone.
They tanked a bit when they went more commercial with Locomotion, etc.
