I think the vocals do convey passion- just in a restrained manner. The guitars certainly add to the dreamy lushness.

This is one of my favorite Church songs and I've been waiting for someone to post the video. But the video's one of the worst I've ever seen - perhaps that was the intention. Anyway, this used to be one of those songs where if you played it for a large group of people, everyone would get into a mood and think "what a good song." Now could someone please post a video for No Explanation.
does anyone know ...( 1 year ago by fasterbludger)
does anyone know why the drummer left the band?...do not all bands fight at sometime or other.....what happened?..great song, great band, great lyrics, and i like that the clip features Australia's closest neighbours.
Hi Fasterbludger. ...( 1 year ago by Nigelxman)
Hi Fasterbludger. Richard Ploog (drummer) was basically asked to leave around 1989 because of his unreliability and increasing drug problems. At least that's what I have read. Having been lucky enough to have seen the Church with 3 different drummers, I really miss Richard! Ploogy was an incredibly great drummer! Nothing against Tim Powles. He's an amazing drummer (and Producer) as well. I guess I'm just a little nostalgic for Is there really a video for No Explanation???

They come to the Masquarade Lounge in Atlanta every couple of years. Always a great show. Last on was total acustic, a nice twist on their music.

Richard Ploog was apparently incredibly homesick while recording "Gold Afternoon Fix" in L.A and the whole band hated the production. His descent into a drug habit was symptomatic of their loneliness and isolation, not to mention a record company and producers who didn't understand them and just wanted "hits". Best Aussie band ever. No question.

Yeah, I'm from L.A. and just found out what they went thru in the early 80's recording for their BIG U.S. music company. I feel horrible. They were, homesick, dissoriented and stuck. Me, I'm used to L.A., but it chews up outsiders. I feel somewhat guilty and sad when I listen to their stuff, esp. Under the Milky Way. I'm glad they were able to make it thru the horror.

This was one of the first albums I got by The Church, though I got it a few years later, post Starfish. I've since had it signed by Marty, Steve, and Pete. Great album from a great band.

Splurhh!! The whole point is that the band is filmed at the top of MacQuarie Street, Sydney, NSW, Australia! They're in a building whose central well is given over to a rain-forest theme, near the Opera House on Bennelong Point! The FOUND P.N.G. footage is a counterpoint. In the final 30s of the clip, the band walks off into a Sydney night, filmed in The Domain National Park, overlooking Sydney Harbour, with the lights of North Sydney and Lavender Bay in the background. You oughta come visit!
