The original Robocop was X rated due to violence. It is much better than the R rated version. I cut a little video together with it. Enjoy.

I bought the director's cut on Blu-Ray, and the scene where he gets all shot up is a LOT more bloody. In the original, one minute you see his right arm, and the next it's gone. In the Blu-Ray version, you actually see the whole shooting from start to finish with no cuts. You see his arm blown off and everything. The Blu-Ray version is the "X" version.

It's strange that you say that the full X-rated "Murphy's death scene" is only available on the director's cut edition. Though everyone knows that the TV version was severely censured (as you too admit) the original theatrical version that contained all the blood and violence was plainly untouched when I bought the movie on VHS years ago.

Much agreed. Nothing today touches ED-209 from Robocop 1 or the real robo-psychopath himself, Robocop 2 (that dude was a sick puppy indeed).

No the Criterion DVD release and the new 2disc 20th century release along with the Blu-Ray versions are the X versions... also the Laser Disc version may also be X rated. I have the Criterion release that has this uncut scenes. Also the ED-209 scene in the begining is bloodier as well as the close up gun wound shotes

1. The drumbeat ...( 3 months ago by risksylvan)
1. The drumbeat does sound like "When The Levee Breaks," but the riff is "Sweet Leaf" by Black Sabbath. 2. The blood and violence is mostly intact on the original theatrical version. Apparently, trimming a few seconds of suffering and/or mayhem makes the difference between an X and an R due to violence... 3. I must say, whoever put this video together did a great job. Very entertaining.
