Speaking with Morçego (Anderson Da Silva) we asked about the effectiveness of Capoera in a real fight. He told us about the nasty rodas that happen often in Brazil, nothing to do with the peaceful demonstration we're used to see around.
We took this opportunity and asked him to show us examples of fighting techniques and some "dirty" moves (that are not allowed but happen in real Capoeira fights).

This is beautiful. It seems to me to be good for so much more than fighting. Is it good for fighting? I would just carry a gun if I feared for my life. Do people compete with this? Are they able to walk away afterwards?

capoeira is effective cause the hard kicks whic if hit your leg or you head its a K.O. but its not the best the hand and arm combinations are much more complex in oder martial arts makes them "better"

You see how he's showing his fighting techniques instead of completing them. Otherwise he could injure or kill the opponent. People think it's not a martial art because it's so stylized and they don't hit. Those are Capoeira street-fighting techniques that go back to Mestre Bimba. He borrowed techniques from other styles and/or modified the techniques that were already there to make Capoeira more of a martial art.

In real street mma fights, this guy would get his teeth knocked out for using all these unnecessary sweeps and flips. Tae kown do, Jeet keun do, aikido, and kenpo karate can all take him out him no time. This type of fighting is mostly for showoffs and not really a martial arts practice.

You are wrong. There is no BEST martial art. Even Jujitsu and Thai Boxing are only great for SPORTS martial arts. In a real fight most styles of martial arts would destroy any MMA guy. It is just that in SPORTS competitions those moves would be ILLEGAL. i.e. Real Capoeira is elbow strikes, headbutts, groin kicks, acrobatic ground stops and a lot of trickery. All of which could not be used in K1, UFC, Pride or any other regular SPORTS competition.

Really, the practicality of Capoeira in a fight is like 0. He talks about misleading the opponent, but come on. If you start doing flips in the air, someone is just going to punch you right into the ground.
Someone practicing Capoeira would have no chance against martial arts that aren't "showboaty". Kenpo, Boxing, Muay Thai, Aikido, Kung-Fu, etc. could easily fight this style and win because they don't waste time dancing around. It may be fun and all, but to use it in a fight would be stupid.

Capoeira was actually borned in Angola..the place from where Portugese-sailors brought their slaves from....Portugese established themselves in America..currently the area known as Brazil, so slaves continued practicing Cap but diguised it as a dance to be able to practice it more freely for it was banned by the portugese suppose it was rather efective..I don't think it has early roots in Portugal but it's probably practiced..just like you could practice Karate where you live..

You think that because someone trains Capoeira it's mandatory for them to do flips in a streetfight?
Just because you act one way in a Roda doesn't mean you'll do the same in a real fight. Capoeira has almost all the same kicks (And a few more) as TKD, and it also has clinchwork and takedowns. I suppose you didn't even notice how the combat move he demonstrated was a roundhouse kick... A kick that appears in every striking art... Are they all inaffective now too? O_o

I want to point out that anyone who trains in MMA, Mauy Taih or Capoeira knows the moves that cant be used in UFC as well.
Just because they arnt used in competition doesnt mean they're not used in self defence. If you think thats not true, find someone to try and fight me.
Have you got any idea what a Mauy Taih style knee shot will do to a person if it hits their groin? Or a jumping elbow strike will do to the side of your neck?
They dont use them in competition because they kill.
