Pearl Jam aren't even a true grunge band, if you want to get technical. Grunge is bands like the Wipers, early Mudhoney, Melvins etc. In short: sludgy, aggressive, poorly produced rock. PJ were closer to classic rock

Close, but not quite true. Grunge is, in a theory sense, something that has a very powerful, aggressive, dirty nature with the chords/melody line, with the intent to have a quick build up and release of tension. Grunge (the good ol' stuff) uses full chords with power chords to, occasionally, back up the song at some points.
^ Pearl Jam fits all of that.

nirvana were true revolutionists of music because they took what everyone else in washington was doing at the time, perfected it and went public with it. they werent about hating life, kurt cobain loved animals and kids and toy monkeys, but music was his outlet for what he did hate about life, which was a lot of terrible stuff.

yes its true that sometimes the style of Nirvana's tunes were sometimes the same stuff repeated but you gotta say they did inspire other many bands musically and had something to say in their songs.But I say Pearl Jam is here to stay and will always be my favorite not grunge band but ,illustrious band!
