"so that's it then? Were just going to pretend like everything's fine now, as if everyone hasn't been treating Bridget like shit for the past month?"
"I-It's okay Alexandria" Bridget said quietly "I'll be fine, no need to-"
"no it's not alright Bridget. I mean look what we've done with you" Alexandria said, surveying the room with distaste.
Bridget propped herself up with her elbows "you haven't done anything"
"that's true Alexandria" Haley spoke up "you haven't done anything. Out of all of us, you alone rose to be the bigger person."
Alexandria took a sidelong glance at Nick and looked down at the ugly tiling in the room with it's chipped corners
"no I haven't" she muttered
"yes you have. You've been trying to get us all talking for a while now"
As Haley spoke, Alexandria slowly backed away from the bed and sat on one of the chairs in the room, hunched over into herself so no one could feel welcome to continue the conversation with her. But there was no need to worry because the conversation moved on when Kevin started to speak. Still, throughout all the talking going on around her, she felt a pair of eyes on her and she didn't have to look up to know they belonged to Nick.
"Bridget, I'll be the first to say that I'm sorry for the way I dealt with the whole situation" Kevin said. Haley looked with obvious hope at the other side of the bed where he stood, willing him with her eyes to look at her too but Kevin kept his sights on Bridget "you weren't to blame for what happened that day between Haley and I. Actually all you did was wake me up to a problem that had already been there."
With that said, Kevin finally returned Haley's gaze. Haley had missed being able to look into his hazel eyes but not now, not like this when they were so hardened to her. She turned away from them, biting the inside of her cheek to keep from showing how much pain he'd just caused her with only one look.
"Thanks" Bridget mumbled, a little embarrassed by how much attention she was getting.
But she shook the feeling off and spoke her next works with such force it was reminiscent of her old self "well since everyone is clearly ready to talk now, can you finally listen to what I've been trying to tell you for weeks now?"
She didn't wait for a reply. If she was going to start acting like her normal self again then there was no need to
"Now that day in the parking lot when I kissed Sean.."
Joe shifted his weight on his feet and cleared his throat, clearly uncomfortably, but Bridget continued as if there had been no interruption
"when I kissed Sean, it was an accident. I thought...well I know this sounds stupid but I thought he was Joe..."
Joe stopped fidgeting then
"but all of you left before I had a chance to explain myself. And if you'd only stuck around for a couple more seconds you would have been there for the interesting conversation I had with Sean and you'd know that all this time you've all been going around blaming each other, he was really the one to have been mad at."
Everyone's attention was peaked by this news. Minutes passed, maybe even hours but no one noticed the time and no one cared. They were all too occupied with being captivated by the story Bridget had to tell.
