Actually, he DIDN'T fix it. What he did was "rewind" until before she dropped it, let the scene "play" without changing anything, then run off so he wouldn't be there when it happened. 'Cause the doll didn't need fixing. Small matter. Basically he was just giving himself time to disappear, so to speak.
