if this song was released today? it would not be acceptable!, it is a classic and it represents a whole nother era, when music was honest and united everyone

@ lesleyannebrown I totally disagree. Once a classic, always a classic!
what i meant was ...( 1 month ago by lesleyannebrown)
what i meant was what i said, "it is a classic" and the lyrics is pure, but music's quality these days is all over the place, the kids these days wouldn't be able to embrace it, for what it is, it's beyond "rolling on dubs" it's the freaking "pusherman" one of the best there was! all hail mayfield!

What I meant was...Im 26. born in 1982. I appreciate "one of the best there was!" as much as you do. That means that even though i might be considered "kids these days", a classic is a classic. that means Curtis Mayfield's talent permeates generations. I can understand why it was great then, because its great now. I think we agree, we just misunderstood eachother. Peace.

by the way i'm 27 born in 81 and i enjoy old school, even the hip hop today is different from the earlies, so i i guess i'm an modern classic girl!....

daYum Lesleyannebrown, you are a modern classic girl! :) I thought I was talking to someone my mother's age, like late 40's or something. Actually I think its kinda cool that we are around the same age and diggin' on Curtis. Who would have thought...2 under 30's debating C.Mayfield....How cool is that?!

I have a lot of respect for this man..his music really opened up my ears..perspective to a whole new attitude towards..music. I wishe I had been born in the 50s so that I could have caught all the great acts of the day..James Brown,Ray Charlies, Miles Davis, Curtis..

I both agree and disagree. I agree because I understand your thought process, but you old people can't generalize a whole generation's taste in music. The 'mainstream' is merely what's fashionable to be (or more concisely, what isn't barred deu to present politic from being) played on the radio these days. I do agree that that shyit iz dope tho...

When you realize that over 80% of todays music is controlled by just a couple of companies you'll begin to understand why todays music and musicianship has fallen. Thanks to tech however the independent voice and sound may rise again. What we "old people" have to do is remind you young people to PICKUP AN INSTRUMENT AND LEARN SOMETHING.
this is some great shit. bass is killin' it.
