i would agree that he switches flawlessly between pick and fingers but in this instance he is not using a pick at all, even during the solo

answering bamako2201 ... clapton is playing a 000-28ec and mayer is playing either a OM-28 John mayer from like 2004-ish or a OMJM as earlier stated. claptom usually plays either a 000-28EC or a 000-42ECM or B (M for Madagascar and B for Brazilian rosewood) I have the 000-28ec myself and it outplays the 000-28ecb (BRAZILIAN) ten out of ten times!! Clapton even stated on the martin site that his 000-28ec was the best sounding guitar he had ever played. freaking phenominal!
