yeah one of the sailors got washed off ABN AMRO 2 in the middle of the atlantic during the last leg, the ABN AMRO 2 had to pick up the stranded crew of Movistar because the Movistar's canting keel had failed and the ship was takin on water rapidly

Actually,the person who fell overboard was Hans Horovich.During the night,a wave hit Hans,he got hit by a grinder ,lost conciousness and fell overboard.ABNAMRO tried to rescue him but they were to late. They were able to retrieve the body but he was already dead.Three days later,they received a message from movistar that they had abanndoned ship.ABNAMRO rescued them shortly after.When they arruved to port,the crew of ABNAMRO received each the medal of sseamanship for their courage while at sea.

Just one correction: The name is Hans Horrevoets, he was a Dutchman. He was a member of the crew chosen from "amateurs" for the ABN AMRO TWO team and trained professionally for the race.

No ABN escorted crippled movistar for a day before asking them to abandon ship as there was a storm approaching. There is a DVD of the race. Its great. Brave guys

They left Movistar with the engine running and pumps on, but a few hours later she was lost. There was too much water entering from the swing keel.

I been on ABN AMRO 1, thats one amazing boat, I been sailing all my life, and there are riggings on that boat that I do not even recognize at all. haha!
it goes faster than the wind in 'light' wind conditions.... 23knots in only 20 knots of breeze!
