Dedicated to the original Native Americans of Yosemite, Mono Lake and Hetch Hetchy, the Yosemite-Mono Lake Paiute people. Every photo is of Paiutes in Yosemite. Chief Tenaya, who was born at Mono Lake, took several hundred of our people to live in Yosemite. There Chief Tenaya established the Paiute Colony of Ahwahnee after many of the original Ahwahnees died of a diease that was brought to this land. I also want to thank Gayle Hansen-Johnson for her beautiful singing. If you ever find her CD, buy it or you can contact her at ghansonjohnson@yahoo.com for cd information.

The song IS a Great Basin song performed by Gayle Hansen-Johnson. The Great Basin reached all the way into California. This is not a "pan-Indian" song but a Paiute song. The singer is a member of the Bishop Paiute tribe and also a Death Valley Shoshone, both of those tribes are in California. Thanks for asking because this clarifies that the song is not 'pan-Indian' but a rather a distinct Paiute-Shoshone song, which includes California Paiutes and Shoshones.

That wasn't the NPS's plan.That was the plan of the City of San Francisco,who wanted to use Yosemite as an Indian reservation for Bay Area Indians and a place to put a dam for a reservoir.

May we all walk the floor of Hetch-Hetchy Valley,one day.Senator Feinstein has said on several occassions that the City of San Francisco has the God given Right to the water in the dam at Hetch-Hetchy.That may be so,but it doesn't mean they have the Right to have the dam in Hetch-Hetchy.May saner minds prevail,one day,and dismantle O'Shaunnesy Dam.A crime against humanity AND nature!
