Well, I don't necessarily believe in a God. I used to be Christian (A level headed one, like you seem to be =] ) but am now an agnostic. At my youth group there were a fair few people with handicaps.
In my personal opinion, I can't understand how you can believe in an all loving creator if he has shaped you like that, but that's just my outlook on it.

You don't need to be shown God. Religion started out because human beings needed to believe that there was something else beyond what we see. Maybe God does exist, maybe he doesn't, but religion is really about greater powers of good and evil to believe in, not to be proven or disproven. Being a Christian doesn't always involve believing in God and Jesus, but what they stand for, eg. perfection, holiness, forgiveness, mercy, joy, and love
