Patrickspoint is right. Metallica's newer stuff has sucked. Not only musically, but Hetfield can't sing anymore. It's a fact. He destroyed his voicebox, and had to take singing lessons because of it. It's never really been the same. He just can't do it any more. It's like Axl. Axl is only passable when they run his vocals through some pro tools. I do enjoy Metallica's earlier stuff though. Even a lot of stuff after the Black Album. That being said, St. Anger and Death Magnetic are shit.

Death Magnetic is by far better than 95% of music in 2008, maybe you should stop living 20 years ago and get with the fucking times. It's not about "new stuff sucks", James Hetfield is just done. It doesn't matter if the age is responsbile for this or not: older metallica material is great, i really dig Justife for All and the others... But Load, Reload and SPECIALLY St Anger and Death Magnetic suck really hard: it's just not Metallica.

First of all, put your superiority complex to rest. You could have argued your point without the childish insults. There is actually a song I like on Death Magnetic, and that's All Nightmare Long. That doesn't change the fact that I think the album is a letdown in general. I also enjoy a lot of old bands' recent stuff. But it is a fact: James Hetfield destroyed his voice box. Not figuratively. Literally. He lost his ability to sing, and had to relearn, and he hasn't sounded good since

(Continuing my previous coment)...And it would make more sense for Metallica to take some steps in another musical direction. Look at The Who: Daltrey got older. His voice aged. So they modified their sound to make his voice part of what makes their new stuff sound good. Look at say, David Bowie. He adapted to a more contemporary-rocker-style, that's a bit easier on his voice that has been battered quite a bit over the years. Look at Iggy Pop. His voice is shot too. But he changes his style...

...to make it fit. I shouldn't have called Death Magnetic "shit".It's not. It was just a letdown to me. Hetfield doesn't sound right singing that kind of music anymore.What I was trying to insinuate was that I think Metallica should start delving in some other genres of music. Bowie did it, The Who did it, The Stooges did it, and these are bands/artists that have stayed timeless, even from way back in the 60's! Because they always bring something completely new to the table, instead of rehashing

How can you say Metallica havent tried new things over the years? Pretty much all of their 90's albums are different to their first few albums. Then they tried to change with St.Anger which they got slaughtered for doing. So why the hell would they change? when they do all their so called "hardcore" fans moan n cry about it saying they should stick to their older stuff and not sell out to other genres. Bands cannot win in this situation.Metallica r still sellin out huge stadiums in 2008=timeless

Whiskey in the Jar is a very old Irish song - posssibly 200-300 years old. It was always sung in the traditional way that The Dubliners sing it. In the 1970s, Thin Lizzy recorded this first ever rock version of it. Therefore, any other rock version you've heard is a copy of Thin Lizzy's arrangement.

The reason St anger sucked is because Lars wrote it and if they should have learned anything over the years it should have been that Drummers dont write good songs or albums, Ringo Starr, Animal, Lars to name a few, with Phil colins being the exception.
