It's sounds like he's a cross between Tony Williams and Billy Cobham as fars as his hands go. SP is obviously one of the greats. I think Virgil Donati took alot from him. Virgil surpassed him on bass drum ability, but SP is just a cleaner player imo.

Simon has always had the best sounding drums. And he uses no muffling except for a couple of rolled up towels in his kicks. I've been trying to nail that crazy 4-way polyrhythm of his for ten years now, and he goes and speeds up that shit on me....

I first discovered Simon when he toured with The Who back in 89, I was 13 at the time and thought he was the most intense drummer I had ever seen. Now some 18 years later I'm still in amazement at how powerful he still is.

yeah same here to all of the above lol! he is so fluent and musical behind the kit, and has great taste... i had a master class in a recording studio with him in sydney back in 1995, he is not just a great drummer but awesome producer. what an experience.

He's one of the best drummers ever! He can play great jazz (with Jeff Babko on Vantage Point) and harder & progressive stuff (Derek Sherinian's albums Inertia,Black Utopia,Mythology,Blood of the snake).
