This is such a great production; Johanna's vocalizations at the prelude were chilling. Xavier knocked this song out of the park! Is this recording available for commercial sale? Does anywhere know where I might be able to find it?

Hmmm I haven't seen Sweeney Todd since 1983 during Angela Lansbury's last performance and this song was cut, not originally but was eventually cut by the time George Hearn replaced Len Cariou in 1982... before Angela Lansbury was replaced

This guy's awesome. True, the light does make him look a bit creepy, but he's blatantly putting everything he has into this song, and it's sounds AMAZING. His "Johanna"s are particulary chilling.

It is supposed to be exceedingly creepy, since the judge's attentions to Johanna are disturbing. AR 's judge is brilliant- but because they have cut bits like this it is more subtly disturbing......
This judge should not be compared to AR's film version, since Tim Burton's interpretation/editing differs a bit from the normal stage performance.

this scene was cut from the original broadway production since richard barr, one of the lead producers of the production insisted that self-flagellation did not take place in victorian england--the time setting for the action. i was around during the original production, so i know this was the case. i consider this scene to be among the most powerful and brilliant moments of the score as well as the play. i personally pleaded with barr to reconsider, but he did not relent.
