History/background:
James Pond was a spoof hero from the 1990's. He is basically a spin-off of James Bond (obviously) and Robocop. This game has been under quite a few names depending on your region you got it in. Some places called it James Pond 2: Codename Robocod (Get the robocop reference?). This game was basically made by many different companies depending on your ported system. Ocean made the SNES version and called it "Super James Pond". Millennium Interactive mad it for Amiga, Atari ST, CD32, C64, and DOS. US Gold ported it to the genesis/megadrive. Play It Ltd ported this game to Playstation, Playstation 2, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS. Most of the ports as far as I know have the same sorta gameplay accept for the DS and GBA. With your Nintendo DS or Gameboy Advance the game is indentical to this one accept for the fact that the graphics have been polished up, the map is completely different, and the game ommitted the hidden levels. This did draw some people away from it and send them back to the original consoles.
Story:
James Pond is a fish agent that is sent to the north pole to face his archnemesis Dr. Maybe. Dr. Maybe has captured Santa's Castle (castle... I thought it was a workshop.... okay.), stole a bunch of toys, and kidnapped most of the penguins. The penguins call on him to rescue their penguin compatriots, get back the toys, and take out Dr. Maybe.
Gameplay:
Super James Pond's (aka James Pond 2: Codename Robocod) gameplay is based around somewhat shakey platforming, jumping on your enemies, and navigating through mazes and puzzles. The game is filled with many christmas related enemies like: Gingerbread men, Toy Trains, strange lil blue men..., cardflys?, and other strange creatures (you only see this shit on acid!). There are 50 levels in total and most of them are based on candy or sweets (cakes, candycanes, ect.). The platforming is at times shakey and a pain in the ass to get through.
Abilities:
Pond doesn't have any weapons in the game so he uses the traditional "Jump on them and they'll die technique". He is able to go into his armor sorta like a turtle (done by pressing down on the D-Pad), stretch to unlimited heights (Hold B button), and thats about it. He can get powerups like wings and invicible items. With wings you basically fly until you die or complete the level.
Vehicles:
Most games by this point didnt have too many vehicles, and for the most part if they did the controls sucked balls. He only really has two occasional vehicles in this game which is a car and a plane (flying tub?). Anyway, they dont come up often so their not really a major a part in the gameplay.
Random Fact (From Wikipedia):
In the original UK version of the game, the penguins featured as in-game product placement for the McVitie's biscuit company's Penguin Biscuits, making it one of the earliest games to use this form of advertising. According to a 1994 article in the UK edition of PC Gamer, Penguin outsold arch-rival KitKat for the first time in the product's history soon after the release of the game.
Enjoy!!
