Think about the quickest road car you've ever driven. No, wait, scratch that. Think about the quickest road car you've ever heard of. No, wait. That won't do, either. Think about the quickest road car that's ever been. That's more like it. Now you're in the right area code.
Here's why: This highly modified 2005 Ariel Atom with its supercharged, 375-horsepower, 2.0-liter Honda engine hits 60 mph from a standstill in 2.8 seconds. Two-point-eight seconds! With an exclamation point! (And we never use an exclamation point.)
Measure its time to 60 mph with 1 foot of rollout like they do on a drag strip, and the Ariel gets to the mark in a scant 2.6 seconds — less time than we require to decide between paper and plastic.
For those of you keeping score at home, this makes this 2005 Ariel Atom quicker than any car we've ever tested — any Porsche, any Viper, any Vette and any other specialty marque like the Noble M400. But it gets better. The little Atom goes on to further embarrass the big names by punching its way through the quarter-mile in 10.6 seconds at 128.4 mph. It's the hardest accelerating car we've ever driven.

I expected better skidpad and slalom numbers off this car. I guess because of the low weight, I expected to see more than 1g on the skidpad, and a really high slalom (like 75 or 76 mph).

Skidpad is a small circle track. They run the car around the track and try to find the "breaking point", or the point where the tires break loose and the car begins to lose control. Instead of speed, they measure the skidpad in G-forces. Skidpad and slalom measurements refer to handling ability, with slalom being the ability to respond to quick changes in direction, and skidpad being the ability to hold a turn at a high speed.

You didn't send me msg. Why say that you did when you did not? Not trying to be a dick or anything, but it's impossible to double the power for H22 staying NA, even if it's 400 at crank. The only way to achieve good numbers are FI. I have had numerous hondas and my last handa was rsx type-s and I know for fact that even with all the bolt ons I could maybe get to 200 whp. It's fast, considering how much rsx weights but I'm not talking about crazy numbers here.

Read the description... It's a turbo-charged (and typically riced, sadly... great engine) Honda... And we all know a Honda actually can make good power if you don't just take a hammer to your muffler.

Not always. Remember, it's a supercharged Honda drivetrain, which has a short 1st gear. You'd get to 20 mph in first, and in a car that powerful and that light, all you'd do is spin the tires, which of course doesn't get you anywhere. It would be perfectly acceptable to start in 2nd. You'd end up with less wheel spin (and therefore better grip), and you may get quicker times. Many people that run Atoms on the drag strips start in 2nd, because 1st is almost useless to them.

ok so i am extremely surprised that the atom is an as good as i thought it would be in some areas: the slalom? 70mph? the car weights next to nothing and a porsche gt3 rs can do 75. braking? i've seen better? skidpad, 0.90g? thats it? many cars can surpass that...but you gotta love it for its straight line speed i guess
